Whitney Houston Dead: Singer Dies At 48

Whitney Houston, the iconic American singer whose battles with drugs, alcohol and ex husband Bobby Brown marred her star power no more in the beautiful world. She was 48.

Whitney Elizabeth Houston was an American singer, actress, producer, and model. At the time of her death, Houston was the most awarded female act of all time, according to Guinness World Records.Her list of awards includes two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards, among a total of 415 career awards as of 2010. Houston was also one of the world's best selling music artists, having sold over 170 million albums, singles and videos worldwide.

Houston's publicist confirmed the singer's death to ABC News. The cause of death is not yet known.

Representatives from the Beverly Hills Police Department confirmed that the singer died in a hotel room at the Beverly Hilton hotel.

Police got a 911 call from hotel security at 3:43 p.m, P.I.O. Lieutenant Mark Rosen said. Efforts to revive her were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina, were among the people that were immediately notified of her death.

Rosen said Houston's cause of death has not yet been determined and no "obvious signs of foul play" have been seen.

Houston was scheduled to perform Saturday evening at a pre Grammy Awards party for producer and mentor Clive Davis. The party went on despite the star's death, and the presence of numerous police vehicles, including a crime lab bus, outside the hotel.

Among the stars and celebrities who showed up for the party were singer Alicia Keyes, soul legend Gladys Knight, entrpreneur Richard Branson, and jazz great Herbie Hancock.

Houston's mother, Cissy Houston, and her cousin, Dionne Warwick, reportedly both spoke to the singer during the day and had no indication that anything was wrong.

Warwick spoke to her over the phone to check that they were seated at the same table at Davis' party and Cissy Houston talked to her at around 3:15

Just a half an hour later, someone in the singer's camp called 911, and she was pronounced dead 10 minutes later.

Houston was last photographed on Thursday, when she appeared disheveled and disoriented in front of the Tru Hollywood nightclub that played host to a pre Grammy Awards party. According to the Hollywood Reporter, she got into an altercation with "X Factor" finalist Stacy Francis at the event, where she was said to be acting "belligerent." On Friday, she was partying loudly at the Beverly Hills Hilton.

Houston returned to rehab in May of last year seeking treatment for drug and alcohol dependence. "Whitney voluntarily entered the program to support her long-standing recovery process," her publicist said at the time.

The six time Grammy winner staged a comeback in 2009, but was dogged by rumors that she was using drugs again. That year, she told Oprah Winfrey that marijuana laced with cocaine was her substance of choice during her 1992 to 2006 marriage to R&B singer Bobby Brown. They have a daughter together, Houston's only child, Bobbi Kristina Houston Brown.

Houston's appearance on "Oprah" was her first major television interview since 2002, when she talked to ABC News' Diane Sawyer.

At the time, Sawyer asked Houston about ongoing drug rumors that had started in 2000, when airport security guards found marijuana in Houston and Brown's bags at a Hawaiian airport. The singer alluded to having used cocaine, pills and marijuana -- but drew the line at crack in what turned into an infamous rant.

"First of all, let's get one thing straight," she told Sawyer. "Crack is cheap. I make too much money to ever smoke crack. Let's get that straight. OK? We don't do crack. We don't do that. Crack is wack."

In August 2009, Houston released "I Look to You," her first studio album in seven years. It sold 304,000 copies in its first seven days on the market, sending Houston back to the top of the charts and giving her the best debut week of her career.

A woman kidnapped at knifepoint at age 14 and held captive for nine months is getting married.The kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart occurred on June 5, 2002, when 14 year old American girl Elizabeth Smart was abducted from her Salt Lake City, Utah, bedroom. Smart was found alive nine months later on March 12, 2003, in Sandy, Utah, about 18 miles from her home, in the company of Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Ileen Barzee, who were indicted for her kidnapping, but initially ruled unfit to stand trial. Barzee, in 2009, and Mitchell, in 2010, were eventually convicted. Her abduction and recovery were widely reported and were the subject of a made for television movie and a published book. He was held in the Salt Lake County Jail following his sentencing on May 25, 2011. On August 31, he was transferred to federal prison to begin serving a life sentence for his crimes.

A spokesman for 24 year old Elizabeth Smart says she got engaged last weekend and will likely marry in the summer. No details about the groom to be were disclosed. The spokesman says Smart plans to keep her personal life private.

Smart's father, Ed Smart, tells The Associated Press his future son in law is a "fine young man." Ed Smart says he's pleased for his daughter and hopes she has a happy life.

Onetime itinerant street preacher Brian David Mitchell was convicted in 2010 of Smart's 2002 kidnapping and sexual assault. He's serving a life prison sentence.

We're wishing a speedy recovery to Merle Haggard, who was hospitalized in Macon, Ga., Tuesday night (Jan. 17). According to Nashville's WSMV-TV, the 74-year-old country icon fell ill prior to a scheduled performance and was rushed to a local hospital.

Merle's tour manager, Frank Mull, confirms to the Ledger-Enquirer that the singer had been sick since leaving his California home last week. However, details regarding the illness have not been disclosed. His scheduled show tonight (Jan. 18) in Columbus has been canceled.

Back in August, the 'Okie from Muskogee' singer was forced to postpone several concerts for an undisclosed medical issue, after being taken to a hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas. He was also sidelined in late 2010 due to a respiratory ailment. The resilient entertainer beat lung cancer in 2008.

The singer and Electronic Arts, the company behind "The Sims," announced "an exclusive creative collaboration" between Kate Perry and "The Sims" franchise on January 17.

The two plan on developing games within the franchise with Katy Perry themed in game content and online goods.

The first project within the agreement is the collector's edition for "The Sims 3 Showtime," which will hit stores in March 2012. A trailer for the game can be seen below. Perry will also be featured in the advertising and marketing campaigns for the brand.

"I love how you're able to play out different stories through your Sims characters - giving them different careers and watching them succeed," Perry said in a Statement. "It's cool to see the Sims' stage performances in "The Sims 3 Showtime" decked out just like my California Dreams Tour-- even my cotton candy video screens are in there! Mary Tyler Moore will be honored with the 48th Screen Actors Guild's Lifetime Achievement Award, during the upcoming ceremony.Dick Van Dyke will present the award to his "Dick Van Dyke Show" co-star at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The 75-year-old actress has received seven Emmy Awards, a Tony Award and was nominated for an Academy Award over the course of her career. Moore is known for her roles in "The Dick Van Dyke Show" in the 1960s and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" in the 1970s. In the latter, she played Mary Richards, a local news producer in Minneapolis.

"Mary Tyler Moore won our hearts as Laura Petrie and Mary Richards, our respect as her production company became synonymous with quality television, our awe as she tackled difficult subject matter in film and on Broadway, and our admiration she turned her public recognition into a catalyst to draw attention to critical and deeply personal health and social issues," Screen Actors Guild National President Ken Howard said in a statement. "She truly embodies the spirit behind SAG's Life Achievement Award, and we are honored to proclaim her as its 48th recipient."

After "Mary Tyler Moore" ended in 1977, Moore went on to star in shows such as "The Naked Truth," "That '70s Show" and "Lipstick Jungle."

She was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in the 1980 Robert Redford-helmed film, "Ordinary People."

In May, the actress underwent surgery to remove a benign tumor on the lining of her brain.

"Mary Tyler Moore went in for an elective surgery to remove a meningioma, which is a benign tumor of the lining tissue of the brain (not a brain tumor). At the recommendation of her neurologist, who has been monitoring this for years, and a neurosurgeon, Mary decided to proceed with this fairly routine procedure," the publicist said in a statement to OnTheRedCarpet.com.

Last year, Moore reunited with her former "Mary Tyler Moore" co-star Betty White on the second season premiere of the comedy series "Hot in Cleveland" after more than 33 years.

She also helped White celebrate her 90th birthday and received a standing ovation when she appeared on NBC's special, "Betty White's 90th Birthday: A Tribute to America's Golden Girl," which aired on January 16.

The interesting cut of the dress showed off Angelina's tiny frame thanks to its structured top, ruching at the waist and flowing skirt. She also tied her brunette locks in an elegant bun and slipped some cream peep toe high heels onto her feet to complete the stunning look.

BEST: Young And Fresh
"Young Adult" nominee Charlize Theron is stunning in this pale blush Dior Couture gown, with belted bow detail finished with a Cartier gem and a serious slit that shows a little leg. Her vintage-inspired 'do, sparkly headband and dewy makeup make this look a head-to-toe winner.

First-time nominee Rooney Mara looks like she's holding onto the darkness of her "Dragon Tattoo" role in this black Nina Ricci gown. The dress is fine, but if you're a nominee, we want more than just OK. And a little smile goes a long way, too.

BEST: Easy Does It
It doesn't take much to make Reese Witherspoon look stunning, which is why we're always thrilled when she opts for understated glamour. This red Zac Posen gown hugs all her curves, while her beachy 'do and simple make-up keep things looking effortless.

BEST: Sneak Attack
"Luther" star and winner Idris Elba is one classically handsome man, but we love that he's not afraid to take fashion risks. His double-breasted tux jacket gets accessorized with a shiny tie clip, pocket square and black flower pin, but it's his spike-studded slip-on sneakers that give him a step up.

It's been 14 years since Madonna worked the Golden Globes red carpet, but absence has not made our hearts grow fonder of her fashions. This Reem Acra gown is gorgeous on top, but the skirt is overwhelming her with what appears to be an origami fabric explosion.

BEST: Hottest Couple
Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan win the award for hottest couple ever. The Golden Globes first-timers strike a pose, he in a classic tux and she in a gorgeous teal Maria Lucia Hohan gown. In a sea of big-time stars, these two stole the show.

WORST: Velvet Underground
After getting a nod for playing Marilyn Monroe in "My Week With Marilyn," Michelle Williams went for anti-sex appeal in this purple velvet cut-out Jason Wu dress. Her vintage Fred Leighton headband adds a special touch, but it can't save this look from being labeled frumpy.

BEST: Fringe Benefits
The pressure was off of "Cougar Town" funny lady Busy Phillips -- she wasn't nominated or presenting, just there to support her best friend Michelle Williams, but she stole the spotlight in this asymmetrical fringed white gown styled with plenty of '60s bombshell details.

WORST: Fashion "Horror Story"
Is this Connie Britton's middle finger to the Hollywood Foreign Press? The never-been-nominated "Friday Night Lights" alum and current "American Horror Story" star shows up looking like she's there for a tea party, not to attend a star-studded awards show. Next time, don't be afraid to bring the drama.

Golden Globes 2012 Winners: The 2012 Golden Globe Awards took over Hollywood on Sunday evening (January 15) with Ricky Gervais once again at the helm and all of Tinseltown in his joke-slinging sights. A much more staid affair than last year's show - save for some of the host's zingers and Seth Rogen's reference to his penis — the ceremony capped a long week of statuette-accepting and speech-giving ahead of next month's Oscars.

"The Artist" further solidified its spot at the front of the awards-season pack with three wins (including Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical) and "The Descendants" (Best Motion Picture — Drama and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama) showed that it could play the spoiler come Oscar night. The TV side was a more mixed affair, with no show dominating and high-profile wins going to newcomer "Homeland" (Best Television Series - Drama) and "Modern Family" (Best Television Series - Comedy or Musical).

A 23 year old beauty queen from Kenosha, Wis., won the Miss America pageant Saturday in Las Vegas after singing opera and strutting in a white bikini and black beaded evening gown.

Laura Kaeppeler won the pageant Saturday night after strutting in a white bikini and black beaded evening gown, singing the aria “Il Bacio (The Kiss) and answering a question about whether beauty queens should declare their politics by saying Miss America represents everyone.

“Miss America represents everyone, so I think the message to political candidates is that they represent everyone as well,” Kaeppeler said. “And so in these economic times, we need to be looking forward to what America needs, and I think Miss America needs to represent all.”

Miss Oklahoma Betty Thompson came in second while Miss New York Kaitlyn Monte placed third. Thompson was named the America's Choice semifinalist near the start of the pageant.

Kaeppeler wins a $50,000 scholarship and gets the title for one year.

The win is a feather in the cap for Wynn Las Vegas Director of Race and Sports Operations Johnny Avello, who predicted that she would win.

“I went through her profile online and was impressed," he told the Sun last week.

Kaeppeler's platform during the competition was supporting and mentoring children of incarcerated parents.

Kaeppeler was chosen as the winner by a panel of seven judges during a live telecast on ABC. The event was the culmination of a week of preliminary competitions and months of preparations for the titleholders from all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The new Miss America will spend the next year touring the country to speak to different groups and raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network, the Miss America Organization’s official charity.

Teresa Scanlan of Nebraska won Miss America last year at age 17 to become the pageant’s youngest winner ever. She said contestants’ nerves likely were at their highest point just before the pageant.

“You can always breathe a sigh of relief” once the live pageant begins, Scanlan said.

Pageant officials earlier announced the winners of preliminary competitions, including Miss Hawaii Lauren Cheape, Thompson and Kaeppeler for talent, and Monte, Miss Texas Kendall Morris and Miss Utah Danica Olsen for swimsuit.

Officials also said Miss Idaho Genevieve Nutting won the $2,000 Fourpoints Award, while Miss Kentucky Ann-Blair Thornton won the $6,000 Quality of Life scholarship.

The Miss America Organization touts itself as the world’s largest giver of scholarships to women, with about $350,000 to be given this year at the national level.

Scanlan said she planned to use her scholarship to help pay for law school en route to a life in politics.

The Artist:The Artist won Best Picture honors, George Clooney and Viola Davis nabbed Best Actor and Actress awards and "The Help" won three acting awards as the 2012 Critics' Choice Movie Awards were broadcast live on VH1 from the Hollywood Palladium.

Comedians Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel hosted the festivities, which they called "the ninth most exciting night in Hollywood." The movie about movies -- "The Artist" -- won top honors in the picture and director categories, while "The Help" took CCMA for Best Actress (Davis), Best Supporting Actress (Octavia Spencer) and Best Acting Ensemble.

That latter film also won an onstage shout-out from George Clooney, who said, "It seems like 'The Help' table is having the most fun" when he took the stage to present an award.

Christopher Plummer won the Supporting Actor award for "Beginners," and said "being honored by the critics is like being on a three-week binge with the enemy ... but I'm cool with it."

Although "The Help" won three awards and "The Artist" won four, the voters spread the wealth around. Overall, the 24 categories resulted in awards to 19 different films. One category, cinematography, resulted in a tie between "The Tree of Life" and "War Horse."

Another sign of how open the field was: the night's two top winners both lost in the writing categories to films that won no other awards. "The Artist" was beaten in the Original Screenplay category by Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris," while "The Help" lost to "Moneyball" in the Adapted Screenplay race.

Thomas Horn from "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close," meanwhile, was named Best Young Actor/Actress, even though another nominee in his category, Shailene Woodley for "The Descendants," had received a (non-age-dependent) Supporting Actress nomination. And "Bridesmaids," a comedy that did not receive a screenplay nomination, beat "Midnight in Paris" as Best Comedy, despite the fact that the latter film won the screenplay award.

In other awards, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" won for both makeup and sound, while "The Muppets" did not split its vote by having three of the five nominees in the Best Song category. The film's music supervisor, Flight of the Conchords singer-songwriter Bret McKenzie, won for "Life's a Happy Song."

"Rango" was named Best Animated Film, "A Separation" took the Foreign-Language Film prize, and Martin Scorsese's two-part HBO documentary "George Harrison: Living in the Material World" was named Best Documentary.

Scorsese was also given an honorary award, the Music + Film Award, for the way he has used music in his films. Leonardo DiCaprio and Olivia Harrison (the widow of Harrison) presented the award to Scorsese after Bob Dylan performed a slow, emphatic version of his mid-'80s song "Blind Willie McTell."

"The Artist" director Michel Hazanavicius was named Best Director shortly after the Scorsese presentation, and began his speech by saying that he didn't know what the phrase "best director" meant. "After seeing a clip of Martin Scorsese's work, and passing by Steven Spielberg's table, I think it's stupid," he said.

Sean Penn also received the Joel Siegel Award for his humanitarian work. The award was presented to Penn -- who appeared live via satellite from Haiti -- by Clooney.

The Critics' Choice Movie Awards awards are voted on by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, a group of more than 250 television, radio and Internet critics. It is the nation's largest organization of film critics.

The CCMA generally match the Oscars fairly well, with voters agreeing with the Academy on four of the last five Best Picture winners. The one case in which they did not agree was last year, when "The Social Network" won the CCMA and "The King's Speech" the Oscar.

Last year, all four acting winners – Colin Firth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale and Melissa Leo – went on to win Academy Awards. Overall, 12 of last year's Critics Choice winners (out of 20 overlapping categories) won Oscars; the year before, 13 did so.

His lawsuit claims he did a similar deal with Leonardo DiCaprio and Leo’s boundless charms helped sell 100 units. But Larry says Pam just missed one event after another, with no viable reason ever heard from her reps.

Larry now blames the 43-year old actress for his firm being unable to unload the condos and he wants $22.5-million, which is what he claims the unsold units have cost them.

But this botox-fueled bun-fight doesn’t end there – Pamela Anderson Baywatch celebrity is already suing Larry, claiming he promised her $1-million if she didn’t end up with a condo, and she didn’t get paid. But Larry argues she’s not entitled to the cash because she didn’t perform as required by their deal.

The annual fashion show, which was recorded earlier in the month but aired Tuesday night on CBS, offered its viewers a look at the sexy Victoria's Secret models strutting their stuff on the runway while also giving behind the scenes, Project Runway style looks at the prep for the show.

But the real highlights of the night came from performances by Kanye West, Jay Z, Maroon 5 and Nicki Minaj. Kanye opened the show with a rousing performance of "Stronger," and then later took to the stage with BFF Jay Z to perform songs from "Watch The Throne" while a very pregnant Beyonce looked on in approval from the audience. Maroon 5 later performed their hit "Moves Like Jagger," and then leading man Adam Levine walked the catwalk with his Angel girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna before the two of them shared an onstage, slow-motion kiss. Minaj closed the show with "Super Bass."

The fashion show featured the return of longtime Victoria's Secret model Miranda Kerr, 28, who had to sit out last year's runway walk because she was pregnant (she gave birth to son Flynn Jan. 6). Hubby Orlando Bloom could be seen cheering for Kerr from the front row as she walked the catwalk in the Fantasy Treasure Bra, a diamond-and-gem-encrusted bustier worth $2.5 million!

Although she grew up in the laid-back northern California town of Santa Cruz, she says that working as a model has made her appreciate city life.

'When I began working for Victoria's Secret, they were shooting a lot in Miami. I was there every week, and finally I just decided to stay because I didn't want to fly back and forth from California every week,' she says.

The 27-year-old has filed for divorce from Thomas Vonn.

"This is an extremely difficult time in my personal life and I hope the media and my fans can respect my need for privacy on this matter," she said in a statement.

Thomas Vonn, a former Olympic skier himself, had been her chief adviser and scheduler. "I will continue to be coached by the U.S. ski team," Lindsey added.

Their relationship caused a rift between Lindsey and her father Alan Kildow, due in part to their nine year age difference. Kildow, who was replaced by Thomas as her coach and mentor, was not invited to the couple's 2007 wedding.

The troubled singer had been in and out of rehab multiple times, even singing songs about how she would not go. The news of Winehouse's death did not come to a shock to some celebrities. her drug addled tabloid lifestyle would take center stage. Her fans watched as she was arrested for assault, warned and featured doing drugs in a home video.

Her spiral continued until 2008, when she was hospitalized with lung disease and covered in nicotine patches in order to break her from the worst of her addictions. We hoped she'd recover. We hoped to see another album just as good as "Back to Black," but more importantly, we wanted to see her beat her addiction and survive. We wanted Winehouse to divorce Blake Feder Civil and become a success story.

Shortly after her hospitalization, Winehouse did divorce Blake Feder Civil and the news stopped. Winehouse underwent a brief stint in rehab to prepare her for an upcoming comeback tour. She even performed an impromptu concert in London at the 100 Club. She was sober. She talked to the fans, and everyone cheered. It looked like the old Amy was back.

She appeared well prepared for her concert in Belgrade. She wasn't. It was a disgrace. The singer stumbled, muttered and forgot the lyrics to her own songs. She went home. We wondered what happened between the 100 Club and Belgrade. The tour spent about a day in limbo before the remaining dates were canceled.

We, again, hoped Winehouse would recover that this was just a brief bump on her road to becoming drug free. Unfortunately, that bump in the road turned out to be a mountain, and Winehouse was too sick to climb it. She was found dead in her apartment earlier. The cause of death is unknown.

A Century of Indian Dance

Over his lifetime classical dancer and collector Mohan Khokar (1924-1999) built up a large collection of dance memorabilia, ranging from photographs, paintings, costumes, gramophone records, Chola bronzes, puppets, letters, textile, stamps, dolls, handbills, calendars and even firecracker boxes. Much to the delight of Delhiites this priceless collection is now on display at an exhibition titled “A Century of Indian Dance: 1901-2000”.

The treat begins with the Nataraja gallery. Bronze images of Nataraj traceable to the Chola period give way to other sections of the exposition. A Nataraj made of broken bangles and beads on a sketch of the deity from the last century holds pride of place. A photograph recounts the fascinating story of a set of talented Devadasis who came along as the dowry of princess Chimnibai on her marriage to Sayajirao Gaekwad, Maharaja of Baroda in 1883. The dancers stayed on to entertain the court and Bharatanatyam subsequently spread to North and West India.

Many of the photographs were taken by Khokar. Uday Shankar, the pioneer of modern Indian dance, is revealed in a range of photographs, including one with Rabindranath Tagore. Equally compelling are the photographs of the prima donnas of Indian dance such as Mrinalini Sarabhai, T. Balasaraswati, MK Saroja (Mohan Khokar's wife), Rukmini Devi Arundale, Zohra Sehgal, Kumudini Lakhia and Uma Sharma. One arresting image has a young Pandit Birju Maharaj, the doyen of Kathak in motion. The collection also includes modern dancers such as Astad Deboo, Daksha Sheth and Aditi Mangaladas, to name just a few.

The dancing dolls, several letters to Khokar from dancers like Ragini Devi, Ted Shawn and Indrani Rahman, stamps and posters add an interesting dimension to the exhibition.

The exhibition has been painstakingly curated by Khokar's son Ashish, a dance critic, and organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). It is hailed as India's single largest dance holding by the Lincoln Centre, New York; The Dance Museum in Stockholm and UNESCO's Dance Council, Paris.

Iconic dancers milled around at the opening, admiring the works on display. Said Kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj, “This exhibition reiterates that dance was and will remain beautiful. The dancer may be old but the eyes, expression and movement are always youthful.”

“There are unique pictures of old artistes which we would never have seen otherwise. They are great inspirations for youngsters,” asserted Kuchipudi exponent Kaushalya Reddy, second wife of famous Kuchipudi dancer Raja Reddy and sister of renowned dancer Radha Reddy who shares the stage with her husband.

ICCR now plans to take the collection around the world. US and Europe are likely to be the first stops. However, artistes are less than happy that the collection lacks a permanent home. The exhibition could change that. Says Saswati Sen, foremost disciple of Pandit Birju Maharaj: “The Sangeet Natak Akademi has more or less committed itself to supporting a state museum of performing arts. The Mohan Khokar collection will definitely find a place in that case.” The exhibition is on till July24.

The filmmaker said that if conversions could be done well enough that the result looked like a movie shot in 3 D, then “Jurassic Park” might be a candidate for the three dimensional treatment. French award ceremony on hold as Mumbai reels from terror

Indiana Jones remains one of cinema's most revered movie characters. Steven Spielberg hasn’t had a film in theatres since 2008′s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Many fans found that film to be a major disappointment and a letdown in terms of delivering an exciting adventure spectacle. With his next film though, it seems like the famed director has learnt from his mistakes.

From the look of this sparkling new trailer for his next directorial effort, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, Spielberg seems to be more than making up for the edge of your seat entertainment that was oddly lacking in the 4th Indiana Jones outing.

The film does look to be constructed similarly to an Indiana Jones film, mixing mythology and action to create a thrilling adventure ride, as well as bringing a slight period setting. This is not entirely accidental, Spielberg is a massive fan of Tintin and there is no doubt that part of the inspiration for Indiana Jones comes from Herge’s classic comic book hero. For me, this new trailer conveys exactly what the film should deliver, which is intrigue and entertainment.

Personally I love the look of it and the stylised motion capture is clearly something they are spending a lot of time on and it does look spectacular. Many fans of the original comics may turn up their noses but Spielberg and executive producer Peter Jackson are trying to deliver something as close as possible to the source material.

The film has magnificent pedigree with Spielberg and Jackson behind the camera in directing and producing roles respectively, but the screenplay is penned by Edgar Wright, Attack the Block‘s Joe Cornish and Doctor Who’s Steven Moffat. In front of the camera is an impressive cast, with Jamie Bell heading up as Tintin, with support from Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Daniel Craig, Toby Jones and Cary Elwes. The film opens in the UK in October and in December in the US.

Harry Potter's saga is ending, but his magic spell remains. Thousands of fans from around the world massed in London on Thursday for the premiere of the final film in the magical adventure series.

They thronged Trafalgar Square, where the stars walked a rain sodden red carpet, and nearby Leicester Square, where the movie was being shown in a plush movie theatre, braving the inevitable London rain with umbrellas, waterproofs and good cheer.

Sun broke out as cast members, including leads Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, and Harry's creator J.K. Rowling began arriving on the red carpet, signing autographs and chatting with fans.

Speaking from a stage erected in Trafalgar Square, 21 year old Radcliffe, who has played the boy wizard since he was 11, told fans that Harry's story would never end.

he said that Each and every person, not just here in this square but around the world who have watched these films for the last 10 years, they will always carry the films with them for the rest of their lives.

Rowling wiped away tears as she thanked the actors for the amazing things they did for my favourite characters. The fans, who chanted thank you as Rowling and the cast took the stage, came from around the world. Many had camped out overnight, some for days. Most were young adults who grew up with the boy wizard and his adventures, and could not pass up the chance to say goodbye.

Luis Guilherme said that It's our childhood we made friends because of Harry Potter, a 22 year old graduate student from Sao Paolo, Brazil. I don't know how my life would be without it. I would be less imaginative, for sure, and less adventurous. I would never be here in London.

We'd never forgive ourselves if we didn't come, one last time. The feeling is shared by the film's stars, who like many of their fans grew up with the series.
